Joy Envisioned’s Winter Bookshelf!

This is a new series that we’re starting this year called ‘Bookshelf’ where we share some reads that we think are worthy of adding to your collection! These recommendations will join old and new reads and will always be centered around holistic health and wellness. Currently, our winter bookshelf contains three books that I would recommend to those interested in diving down the journey of spiritual and physical well-being:

Anger: Wisdom for Cooling the Flames - Thich Nhat Hanh

“Buddhist monk and Vietnam refugee Thich Nhat Hanh gives tools and advice for transforming relationships, focusing energy, and rejuvenating those parts of ourselves that have been laid waste by anger. His extraordinary wisdom can transform your life and the lives of the people you love, and in the words of Thich Nhat Hanh, can give each reader the power to "change everything."

I bought this book from Amazon a few years ago and it’s a book that I constantly find myself coming back to. It addresses the ugly topic of anger and how we can transform our negative feelings into positive energy. The book is a simple read but I’ve found its message and the lessons embedded within absolutely profound. Whenever I feel anger cultivating within me (whether it be from thinking about the past or bearing through a tough, stressful experience in the present) this book has helped me learn how to estinguish the inner fire and take better control of my negative emotions.

Inner Engineering: A Yogi’s Guide to Joy - Sadhguru

“The wisdom distilled in this accessible, profound, and engaging book offers readers time-tested tools that are fresh, alive, and radiantly new. Inner Engineering presents a revolutionary way of thinking about our agency and our humanity and the opportunity to achieve nothing less than a life of joy”

I bought this as an audiobook. I am not going to lie, I play this book a lot. Whether it be while I drive or even as I struggle to fall asleep. This book contains many fundamental principles regarding joy and how to live a more fulfilling life. For any yogi, this book contains many wisdoms of the practice of yoga. A favorite excerpt of mine – "Your destiny is written by you unconsciously. If you have mastery over your physical body, fifteen to twenty percent of your life and destiny will be in your hands. If you have mastery over your mind, fifty to sixty percent of your life and destiny will be in your hands. If you have mastery over your life energies, a hundred percent of your life and destiny will be in your hands."

Wellness is holistic!

The Modern Tiffin: On-The-Go Vegan Dishes with a Global Flair - Priyanka Naik

Priyanka takes you to a different part of the world in each chapter, adding her own Indian-inspired twist to each dish. The recipes in the book are made to be put into a tiffin, an Indian-style lunch box, so that each meal can be perfectly packaged to take on your own adventures, near and far.

This book was a very exciting buy. I was contemplating the purchase for several months until I finally decided to do it before the new year. This book is beautiful, the cover, the colors, the photography all capture and make cooking vegan, global cuisine exciting! The recipes are simple to follow. The first recipe I made from the book was her delish Peanut-Chuntney + Avacado Toast. I wanted to start cooking more vegan meals but wasn’t sure where to begin. If you’re looking to add more plants and spices to your everyday cuisine look no further.

All these books can be found online on Amazon or Barnes and Nobles but I definitely recommend supporting your local bookstore if possible!

Let me know what you think or what you’d recommend for us to check out!

With Love,

Jacqui
